About the Company

Established in 1982, our company has grown from a few dozen jewelry designs to over 150 designs in 16 categories.  The original concept of designing and marketing unique, high quality, moderately-priced pieces of silver jewelry has not changed.  All of the jewelry pieces are crafted locally by experienced silversmiths, who use the "lost wax" method of casting, which requires a dozen separate production steps.

Flowers, birds and wild animals of the Northwest are featured.  Many popular universally-loved designs, however, have been added in recent years, including fashion, sports and domestic animals.

Beginning in 1993, by popular demand, many of the designs were made available in Vermeil, as well as 925-fine Sterling Silver.  The Vermeil line uses a plating of 14-karat gold over the original sterling silver base.  Some designs are "2-Toned", which is a 24-karat gold plating over selected area to enhance the jewelry design.

The Garnets used in our jewelry designs are from the Emerald Creek Garnet area near St. Maries, Idaho.  Most of the stone we use are faceted 2.5mm and 3.5mm.

Idaho and India are the two places in the world where Star Garnets are found.  The Garnet is the State of Idaho's Gem stone.  Anyone is welcome to dig for garnets at this site.  A permit can be obtained from the Forest Service, Idaho Panhandle National Forests, St. Maries Ranger District.

Most of the cast jewelry pieces are available as both earrings and necklaces.   Some are also available as pins, tietacks and charms.

If it flies - if it walks on four legs - or if it just looks and smells beautiful - it is probably available in  SILVER JEWELRY by JC jewelry in silver and/or gold.

All of the jewelry is fully guaranteed under normal wearing conditions.

Biography of Jewelry Designer and Owner

Joan Colgan was born and raised on Staten Island, NY. She has used different mediums, such as pastels, oils, jute clay and yarn to create artistic pieces most of her life.

She moved to the Silver Valley of north Idaho in 1978. Much to her surprise, only a very small amount of the silver mined and refined there was fabricated into jewelry. In 1982, she purchased dendritic-shaped pure silver crystals from Sunshine Mining Company and started to make silver sculptures and jewelry. Her Silver Crystal Snowflake Necklace was pictured in The Silver Institute Newsletter, which is published in Washington, DC.

As Silver Valley tourism increased, so did the demand for silver jewelry. Joan started designing cast pieces with a wide range of themes. Currently there are over 200 designs in the jewelry line. The jewelry production is contracted out to two local silversmiths who use the lost-wax method of casting the pieces. She also markets an assortment of Italian chains, as well as silver and gold tree ornaments made from holly leaves, cypress boughs and sequoia cones. .

Joan has produced logo jewelry for Idaho’s 1990 Centennial, the 12K Bloomsday Run in Spokane, WA, The Coeur d’Alene Resort, CD’A, ID, Silver Mountain Ski Resort, Kellogg, ID, Coeur-the Precious Metal Company, NW Kentucky Fried Chicken Assoc., The Redwood Forest Assoc. in California and Golden Spike National Park in Utah.

In the fall of 1993, Vermeil, which is 14kt gold plate over the sterling silver, was introduced into the line. Selective 24kt gold plating (2-toning) on specific areas of designs was started in 1999.

June 2002, Idaho’s First Lady Patricia Kempthorne presented Laura Bush with one of Joan’s Family Pins while the First Lady was visiting Idaho. These pins were also given to each of the Governor’s wives during the National Governors Conference held in Boise that year.

During her 24- year membership in the Woman’s Auxiliary to the American Institute of Mining Engineers (WAAIME), Joan sold jewelry at mining shows, which resulted in total donations of $33,000 to WAAIME’S scholarship fund.

In October 2004, Joan and Rick moved to Fruita, Colorado and joined the Fruita Chamber of Commerce.

Her husband, Rick, operates Medallion Consultants, Inc., a minting services firm that has had commemorative silver medals designed and struck for many northwest organizations. MCI was the distributor for the 7-pc 1990 Idaho Centennial silver medallion series and is currently marketing a Lewis & Clark Bicentennial 5-pc silver medallion series endorsed by the Idaho Governor’s Lewis & Clark Trail Committee.
