3-Piece set of Marathon Medals. One medal is pure silver, one is gold-plated over brass and one is antique copper. The medals, in plastic flips are 1-1/2" (38mm). All are the same design on front and back. The front shows the legendary Greeek messenger Pheidippides running from Marathon to Athens with news of the great 490 BC victory over the invading Persians. His 26-mile route was followed in the first Olympic Marathon in 1896 and will be followed also in the current 2004 Olympic Marathon. The medal reverse has room for engraving the name, time and place of a personal marathon finish.
